I was a high school English teacher (9th and 10th grade) for four years before I started my career in educational publishing and journalism.

That means I have A LOT of unit plans, lesson plans, PowerPoints, activity sheets, anchor charts, essay prompts, worksheets, etc. that I love to share with teachers through my independent publishing company, Write House Books LLC.

I specialize in creating interactive activities with project-based learning plans because over the years I taught various co-taught classes with teens who had ADD/ADHD, were on the Autism Spectrum, had 504 Plans & IEP Plans, and were English Language Learners (ELL/ESOL). :)

My favorite unit to teach every year was Romeo and Juliet. I used costumes, props, fake blood—the whole nine yards—so my students could act out scenes in class. We even had our own masquerade party to kick off Act One. I also loved teaching novel studies for Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo, and Mexican WhiteBoy by Matt de La Pena.

I often used pop culture references and real world examples in my lessons to bridge the gap between what my kids learned with me and what they experienced outside my classroom.
